China Visa Requirements

Passport

  1. Your passport must be valid 180 days beyond your date of arrival to China
  2. Your passport must contain at least two blank visa pages. If the data page of your passport is not on the same page as your photo, please have both pages photocopied in advance.

Visa Application Form

Download the latest version of the Visa Application Form from the official website of China embassy or consulates in your country.

Photo

You will need to provide one recent colour passport photo (full face front view bareheaded and against a plain light colored background, 33mm x 48mm)

Proof of legal stay or residence status

Valid certification or visa of current legal residence, employment, student status or other legal standing, issued by the authorities of the country where you are staying, is required.


How to Apply for the Chinese Visa

Step 1 - Complete the Visa Application Form

  1. Personal information – name, nationality, local ID, passport, current occupation, education, family members, etc.
  2. Travel Information – major purpose of your visit, Intended number of entries, itinerary in China, information of inviters in China.
  3. Other information – crime records or violation of laws, physical status, companions who share the visa, etc.
  4. Declaration & Signature.
  5. If the application form is completed by another person on the applicant's behalf, please fill out his or her information.

Step 2 - submission

Find the Visa Office of Chinese Embassy or Chinese Consulates that serves your country, then submit your Visa Application Form and necessary documents IN PERSON1.

Notes 1: Mail-in/online/fax applications are not accepted. You must submit the application on your own, or use an agent. But you may be summoned to the Visa Office in person for an interview if necessary.

Step 3 - payment and visa pick-up

After receiving the notification from the Visa Office that your application has been approved and processed, go to the Visa Office in person (or let your agent to do so) so that you can pay for and pick up your Visa. Mail-back visa services are not available.

Processing Time

There are three levels of service to choose from when processing your visa. Based on your schedule, you can choose the Regular service (4 business days), Express service (2-3 business days) or rush service (1 business day). If you are in a hurry, you can pay additional fee for express service or Rush service, but keep in mind that this will make your application process more expensive. Please note that one-day rush service are available only in extreme emergencies and as such, are subject to approval by the consular officer.

  • The above prices are the costs for a visa through the regular level of service.
  • Choosing express service will raise the cost of your application by $35.
  • Choosing rush service will raise the cost of your application by $50.
Note: You must pay the visa fee upon approval of your application. Acceptable methods of payment are credit card (Visa or Master card only), money order, cashier's check or company check.
