You can learn a lot from simply watching, but nothing beats taking a swing at something yourself!

You can learn of the ancient visual art forms in China which include calligraphy, painting, paper cutting and the work behind crafting the “Lion heads” used in the traditional lion dance (No lions are hurt in the process). Hear some experts talk about it, then try them out yourselves.

Speaking of swinging, you will have the opportunity to learn a couple moves from Wing Chun (AKA Kung Fu); the world renowned martial art that has been featured in action films and comedies alike. It emphasizes balance, structure and relaxation to its practitioners, and has strong roots in biomechanics.

Mandarin is the official language of The People’s Republic of China. During this trip, you will learn Chinese in a classroom at HKUST, and then have the opportunity to try it out as you visit and do some work on the Agricultural research facility in Nansha. After doing some farm work, you will be welcome to try some Chinese tea and wine (Drinking age in China is 18).
